The Land Ethics enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land. Before reading this article I had no idea what Land Ethics was, and I was interested to learn what it entailed. I never really thought much about soil being important to us, but now I can see that soil, water, plants, and animals work collectively to function as the land. It is imperative to conserve every aspect of nature. When our soil is poisoned and polluted it hurts every part of the land. It is our responsibility to collectively take care of the environment. Every part of the land works together to function to the highest potential. If we do not start preserving soil and plants we will eventually have nothing left. Our environment is slowly being destroyed every day because people do not understand that these resources do not last forever.
I believe it is imperative that the government help out the environment. If the government would pay more attention to what is occurring in nature we would be better off. I believe the government does not distribute appropriate funds for nature. It is important that we have enough time and energy to put into the environment, but you also need some type of money system involved in the process.
Aldo Leopold stated humans are the intermediate layer of the pyramid with soil being the bottom layer. We depend on plants, animals, and soil for our existence. This pyramid is a cycle that collectively works together to fulfill our needs. As we destroy the pyramid we are equally destroying the environment.
