While I was taking the Ecological Footprint quiz I started thinking a lot about the ways I could be more environmentally friendly. I usually like to think I do a pretty good job respecting the environment and taking care of the environment, but I was wrong. There are so many things that I could do that I never even thought about. The things that stood out to me that I always make sure I do are saving energy by turning things off when they are not in use and when leaving home. I also noticed that most of my furniture is second hand, and I also make sure my roommates and I always recycle all plastic, glass, paper, and aluminum. After I finished the quiz I read that if everyone on the planet lived my lifestyle we would need 5.95 earths. I could not even imagine how many earths some people would need for us to live. I decided I wanted to start conserving more, so I read about all the things I can do to reduce my footprint. For example, I could walk or bike places, buy less, choose more efficient appliances, plant a gardens, choose food with less packaging, eat more local and organic foods, and unplug electronics when they are not in use. I have already started being more aware of the things I do to help the environment.
I found the Great Gorilla video to be very fascinating. It reminded me of a video I saw about a lion that grew up with two men and when they came back years later the lion remembered them. And the lion was overly excited to see that two of them. I find it astonishing that the gorillas can keep that bond with their caregivers after they have been released back into the wild.
